The Science Fair

Kadapa, Andhra Pradesh
Arjun had been working on his volcano model for three weeks. Every evening after homework, he mixed paper-mâché, painted rocks, and practiced his explanation. His little sister, Meera, watched curiously, asking a hundred questions he couldn't always answer.
The morning of the science fair, Arjun carried his volcano carefully to school. He set it up in the corner of the hall and waited. Judges walked by, clipboards in hand, but none stopped at his table.
Then a small girl with a bright ribbon walked up. "Can you show me?" she asked. Arjun nodded and began explaining the chemistry of baking soda and vinegar. He poured the vinegar, and the red foam erupted beautifully. The girl clapped, and soon a crowd gathered. A judge came over and listened carefully.
Arjun didn't win first prize — that went to a boy with a robot. But the judge smiled and said, "You explained it better than anyone today. You made science feel alive." Arjun walked home with a certificate and a warm heart, knowing that sometimes the real prize is the joy of sharing what you love.
